My FAVORITE Joshua Tree Boutique // Shop on the Mesa

As most of you know I frequent Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree often and when I found this shop on Instagram I knew I hit the jackpot. For those of you who have never explored the high desert it’s kinda a funky ghost town. There is one main highway with restaurants and wonky thrift shops which are pretty fun to explore but Shop on the Mesa is truly the gem of Joshua Tree.

Shop on the Mesa is a curated boutique featuring organic + earthy lifestyle items such as furniture, baskets, ceramics and vintage clothing that are sourced from artisans all over the world. As soon as you enter the boutique it truly is a feeling of peace and I’m obsessed with their clean, minimalistic aesthetic all while balancing hand crafted textiles and organic details throughout all of their items.

I love to stop by and chat with the owner Thao Nguyen who opened the shop this past October of 2017 and I asked her a few questions.

Describe the products that you sell and feature?
The main products we feature are from our furniture line Fire on the Mesa – all handcrafted in Joshua Tree in our artisan workshop. We curate objects for everyday living around the style of our furniture. Some of our favorite products we carry are: globally sourced and hand picked textiles and baskets, natural apothecary from LA herbalist Poppy and Someday, Kept vintage clothing and books by Hat and Beard press.

How would you describe the style of your shop?
Handcrafted, organic, simple yet refined, a place to relax and feel inspired.

What do you focus on when curating items for your shop?
We love to bring products into the shop that feel hand touched and are versatile. Such as these light weight khadi hand woven textiles from India. They’re lovely to use as a scarf, light towel, table cloth or small blanket. Or vessels made of fiber and ceramic by Karen Tinney – they’re whimsical in shape and simple for everyday use as a fruit basket.

What type of artists do you select to sell in your shop?
We tend to bring on artists/designer brands that we feel a strong personal connection to their craft or sensibility. Many of our apothecary lines are from LA and Joshua Tree area. Our ceramics are sourced from all over the US and even Israel. Part of our joy is sharing what we find and the mix of it all with our customers.

Unique vintage pieces curated specifically for versatility and simplicity.

Every shop needs a helper right?

What is unique about the pieces you sell?
Our furniture is special because we design and build everything in Joshua Tree. We believe in making high quality products that last a lifetime.

Anything special you would like to share?
The shop is an evolving space for sharing our work and highlighting the unique voices of other designers and artists. So please stop in often!

Shop on the Mesa is located at 56636 Twentynine Palms Highway, Yucca Valley, CA 92284
